Haiti

In the Indigenous Taíno language, Haiti means "land of high mountains." The natural and built environments of the island nation—along with a mix of French, African, Spanish, and Native cultures-influence the work of Haitian artists today: sequined vodou tapestries, metal sculptures hammered and chiseled from recycled oil drums, hand-painted apparel inspired by tropical landscapes, and jewelry fashioned from bone and stone.
