Simbi

This beautifully crafted wall hanging from Mireille Delisme in Haiti is a drapo vodou or 'voodoo flag' representing Simbi, patron of rain and fresh water. Each tiny glass bead is individually stitched to the cotton backing to create the elaborate design, in a process that can take as much as a week. Silk satin trims the edges of the wall hanging, which features a rod pocket at the top for display. Such flags are traditionally used in ceremonies, and are believed to serve as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds.
