Poised on the back of a skull, a deer holds a peyote bud between his antlers. Kawuyomaire is a blue deer who travels the heavens as a guide and guardian. He can be heard by the shaman, and his presence is perceptible through the peyote flowers that appear on this figurine by Higinio Hernandez Carrillo. On each side, a two-headed eagle symbolizes Werika, venerated by all Huichols as their mother, the one who listens to their prayers and helps them when in need. One of her heads talks to God, while the other watches over the world. The artisan creates these geometric images with tiny seed beads, patiently applying each one and using a needle to place them with precision. Six-sided stars watch over the sun at night while he is asleep.

Do not expose this piece to direct heat or light, as it could soften the wax adhesive and thus loosen the beads.
