Angel Cerón crafts an impressive ceramic replica of an urn in the shape of the bat deity, attributed to the Zapotec people. The original sculpture was found in Monte Albán, Oaxaca. The deity's head is shaped like bat wings, its face features fierce fangs and it's human like body holds a shield and maze. Several pre-Hispanic cultures associated the bat deity with darkness and death, thus with the underworld.

This is an unusual and striking piece. Love the historic significance of it, as well as his fierce countenance. Displays perfectly when back-lighted. I am proud to help support Angel Ceron.

This is a beautiful piece. As a licensed bat rehabilitator, I educate thousands of people each year, and use pieces like this to share information about how different cultures view bars. Thank you for this lovely addition to my collection!
