'This mask is used by females of the Bwa tribe during the harvesting of grains,' says master wood carver Salihu Ibrahim. Target-like circles on the wings identify this ethereal creature as a butterfly. Gliding on soft wings, the mask represents a nature spirit among the Bwa tribe of Burkina Faso.

We love it, but it's picture is up-side-down!

This is one of seven butterfly masks by Salihu Ibrahim we've purchased. We have them displayed as a set and love them! Each one is unique and interesting. They are carved from a lightweight wood so they are easy to mount. The color of this one is actually more gold than orange, but is otherwise exactly as shown. The painting is rustic which we like because it adds to the exotic and authentic tribal look of the piece. Thank you, Salihu!!
