By artisans from the Angel Cerón Artisan Association, this frightening figure depicts Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of death. Represented as half man, half skeleton, he makes a menacing gesture with long, claw-like nails, and his liver hangs from the thoracic cage. The artisans work in clay to replicate an image discovered in the House of the Eagles within the Templo Mayor of Tenochtitlan, an archaeological site in Mexico City.

    Fantastico !

Saluti dall'Italia

Love the fine craftmanship of this statue. As an artist myself, I appreciate the intricacies involved in the work-and the fingers, etc.. and other more detailed aspect of this statue are so very well done!

    Beautiful!

It's smaller and more detailed that I expected. I've seen small sculptures in Mexico, and they weren't anything too exciting. This one is absolutely beautiful. Very happy to have bought it.

I love the statue as it represents how people use to think. My wife and I have traveled to Mexico many time and visited most of the sites and have been amazed at size of the construction. Dick

    Nice piece, well packaged

Because of the delicacy of this item, I fully expected it to be broken when it arrived, but it was very carefully padded and packaged and arrived intact. I was very pleasantly surprised, and I appreciate the effort that was made to insure its safe arrival. It's a nicely executed piece, and I'm glad I ordered it.

    Aztec God of death.

Wonderful sculpture of a really gnarly God. This guy overlooks my bed. Reminds me of my mortality. Recently learned I have liver cancer, so helps me focus on the here and now.
