Salihu Ibrahim carves an extraordinary replica of a Guro tribal mask, featuring the raised tail of a scorpion. It symbolizes vigilance and it is also intended to scare enemies away. For the Guro people of Cote d'Ivoire, masks are emblems of the spirits living in the underworld, which they worship and celebrate during special rituals. Ibrahim uses manual tools to procure the admirable detail that embellishes this sese wood mask. He uses kola nut and polish to stain the wood and achieve a lustrous finish.

Love this mask as every other Salihu Ibrahim's work I bought. Looking forward for future purchases.
